Subject matter experts continue to review our courses on a periodic cycle and, whilst implementing their feedback, the team ensure the latest quality and consistency guidance is applied.
Released in December
Dysphagia & Texture Modification
In collaboration with our Subject Matter Expert, we've updated the course content to include additional information and current terminology. The most important updates include information on the risks of choking due to other health issues besides dysphagia as well as pre-assessing and creating a safe interim plan for individuals with difficulty swallowing.
We've provided updated terminology on the IDDSI framework by removing the clinical lead role and replacing it with relevant roles. Essential information was included regarding the various safety measures required when working with thickeners.
We've also added minor improvements and updates on the four stages of swallowing e.g. the correct sized food particles in the Pharyngeal stage.
The learner experience and accessibility have been enhanced by removing and replacing inaccessible components, updating the quality of the graphics, eliminating hyperlinks, and providing an updated downloadable resource module to encourage further learning.
The course update helps you:
Improve your knowledge of risks and pre-assessment of swallowing difficulty.
Stay up-to-date with new terminology on the IDDSI framework and roles.
Apply essential safety measures when working with food thickeners.
Access downloadable resources including information regarding eating and drinking with acknowledged risk.
Released in January
FGM
Our Subject Matter Expert has reviewed the course content and assessment, and both remain compliant. In collaboration with the SME, we decided to bring more in-depth and specific information on some sections of the course, such as updating statistics about the higher exposure to the risk of FGM in girls underage.
In addition, we've also emphasized the importance of girl's and women's rights by stating which relevant legislation covers them in the four nations.
To support the written content we have made minor graphical improvements. In addition to that we have included helpful guidance for schools in safeguarding girls. Accessibility improvements have been made by removing hyperlinks and VO and providing a downloadable resource document.
For a better learning experience, we've decided to remove unnecessary statistics that contribute to cognitive overload.
The course update helps you:
Stay compliant with the latest information.
Improve knowledge about the risks of FGM in girls underage.
Know which legislation applies to the relevant nation.
Have a clear overview with improved graphics.
Navigate the content easily with less cognitive overload.
Learn on-the-go with the downloadable resources.
Risk Assessing
Our Subject Matter Expert has reviewed the course content and assessment, both remain compliant. We've decided to focus on improving the course learning experience by replacing inaccessible components and graphics with more easy-to-navigate learning content. We have added more in-depth information from the Health and Safety Executive on risk assessment completion regulations.
The guidance from the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) outlines the responsibilities of each authority on this matter. This has been covered by providing downloadable resources to facilitate accessible further learning.
Additional accessibility improvements have been made by removing hyperlinks and VO to help the learner focus on the course content with less cognitive overload.
The course update helps you:
Access information easier on-the-go with the downloadable resources.
Know the relevant regulations for completing a risk assessment.
Identify the responsible authorities for health and safety incidents.
