A list and description of common terms used in Access LMS Evo.

Access ContentServe

Access' linked solution enables customers to access our off-the-shelf content or content from one of our content partners, when they have their own or a third-party LMS.

Content is hosted on either a shared portal (LMS Hub) or a sole use (LMS²) ContentServe site.

Users can seamlessly launch the content via their own LMS. Customers are given a login to the ContentServe platform to download the SCORM files but can also use additional tools to create eCreator content, courses and amend assessments.

All modules are fully trackable and reportable.

Access Evo

Formerly known as Access Workspace, a software solution which enables access all business processing software in one place, with a single sign-on.

AICC

Stands for Aviation Industry CBT Committee and is a technical eLearning standard which determines how a piece of eLearning communicates with Access LMS Evo.

Bespoke content

Online learning where the content and branding has been tailored to fit individual clients.

Access ComplianceServe

An Access product brand. This site contains a library of courses to assist clients with mandatory compliance training.

Content library

A list of courses that have been published to the individual Access LMS Evo sites.

Content manager

An area of Access LMS Evo to create and manage bespoke content, with the appropriate level of access.

Learners do not have access to Content Manager.

Course

A group of content packaged together as one overall course. For example, an induction course could include the staff handbook, a health and safety video and an assessment.

CSV

A Comma Separated Values file which stores tabular data in plain text using commas to separate each field and record on a separate line. CSV files can be opened in any spreadsheet application e.g. Excel.

eCreator

A tool available on Access LMS Evo for creating bespoke eLearning courses using a set of easy to use templates.

Learning management system (LMS)

A software application that allows an organisation to access, manage and track their learning modules.

LMS' are focused on online learning delivery acting as a platform for online content but also support a range of uses including reporting and user management.

Access LMS Evo is Access' Learning Management System.

Library

Also referred to as a catalogue of content. This is where off-the-shelf content is published to and made available for users to register to.

Content in this area cannot be edited by customers directly.

LMS Hub

A shared portal of Access LMS Evo for multiple organisations needing to access licensed content libraries without the need for full LMS² functionality.

Access to the content libraries is subject to the subscription taken. The features and functionality on these sites are pre-configured meaning all organisations have access to the same tools and capability.

LMS²

A full enterprise site for organisations that need their own platform for their sole use and control.

An example would be a corporate learning management system for staff that might be integrated with an HR system.

Module

Individual piece of content on Access LMS Evo that users are registered to, for example, eLearning, video activity or document module.

Navigation bar

Sites based in Access Evo have a bar below the open tabs in Access Evo containing a circle with the users' initials.

Administrators can use this to switch to admin view.

Negative scoring mode

Useful for multiple choice questions to prevent users from guessing, thereby giving an inaccurate representation of true knowledge.

Deducts one point for each incorrect answer, which balances out questions that were guessed correctly.

Users are awarded zero for any answer where they select the don't know option.

Off-the-shelf

This is how Access refer to Access ComplianceServe content, comprising of items such as eLearning, question banks and courses.

Organisation

The 'parent' or highest level of an Organisational Structure.

Organisation unit

Sits underneath an organisation.

Units can include subsidiaries or departments of a wider organisation.

Question bank

A collection of questions that can be used in an assessment.

The question bank can contain more questions than user's are required to answer, so that a specified number of questions can be selected at random within an assessment.

Administrators download a template in CSV format to add questions to. The template ensures that Access LMS Evo can read the file when it's uploaded.

Registration rule

Rules that can be set on the system for users to be automatically registered onto modules/courses based on the criteria that's been applied.

SCORM

Shareable Content Object Reference Model.

A technical eLearning standard which determines how a piece of eLearning communicates with Access LMS Evo.

Super administrator

Highest level of access to Access LMS Evo.

Can control other options not available to administrators, such as changing site settings.

Syndicate

Enables Access to automatically introduce a new version of content to Access LMS Evo for any clients who use it, thereby stopping the need for clients to download it manually. Syndication process happens overnight.

T&C

Training and Competence.

This general term has specific meaning in the financial advice industry where a T&C system for regulatory compliance training is mandatory.

Tin Can API

Also referred to as xAPI, or Experience API.

The newest eLearning standard which enables Access LMS Evo to communicate with and collect data from a wider range of technologies, both online and offline, and does much more than the previous AICC and SCORM standards.

User role

Allows different levels of access to the system. For example, a standard user can only see information relating to themselves and cannot amend anything on the site.

ebEx

An application for sharing and conferencing that is widely used for presentations, demos, training and support.
