Course description
Manual handling causes over a quarter of all workplace injuries, with tyres causing nearly half of all manual handling injuries in motor vehicle repair. A tyre may look simple to move—it's not. The awkward shape shifts weight unpredictably, oil contamination makes surfaces slippery, and steel wire from damage creates hidden sharp edges. Handle 20-30 tyres in a shift and cumulative strain adds up fast. Our Manual Handling Including Tyres course provides essential knowledge for workers in motor vehicle repair, tyre fitting, and warehouse operations where proper techniques protect long-term health.
The course covers LITE assessment (Load, Individual, Task, Environment) as the framework for evaluating manual handling operations, safe tyre handling techniques including checking for steel wire and sharp edges before touching any tyre, using palm-flat grip on tread surface to keep fingers clear of crush points, and testing grip on mounted tyres with uneven weight distribution. Learners explore equipment to reduce risks including tyre-wheel trolleys, tyre changers with integrated lifts, team lifting requirements for heavy commercial tyres with clear communication, and rolling techniques for large tyres. Interactive content includes carousel slides, accordion equipment options, flip cards for tyre industry PPE (cut-resistant gloves, steel toe-capped boots with metatarsal protection, knee pads), and safety notes on tyre inflation.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
Apply LITE assessment before handling any load
Demonstrate safe tyre handling techniques including proper grip and equipment use
Identify appropriate PPE for tyre operations
CPD Certified
