We base our courses on the learning outcomes in the Care Certificate, then strengthen them with content from professional qualifications and diplomas in the sector. Our courses teach at level 2 unless we state otherwise, such as Food Safety Level 1.

Learning objectives

When we create an elearning course, we start by setting learning objectives that work in an online setting. Because the courses are fully online, there's no practical element and we can only assess a certain depth of understanding.

This means we don’t assess at level 3, where learners need to show more autonomy and decision making. For this reason, we avoid learning objectives such as:

  • Demonstrate.

  • Understand.

  • Describe.

To set learning objectives, we follow industry standards to see what learners need to know. We use the following sources:

Relationship to professional qualifications

Our elearning courses don’t replace professional qualifications. However, organisations like Tend have mapped our courses to the required syllabus so they can count as recognition of prior learning.

Ongoing standards mapping

You can see our current mapping to the Core Skills Training Framework for the latest alignment work.
