Welcome to the February edition of our Legal Learning content release note. This month is a major release with the launch of our updated CQS courses for 2026, approved by the Law Society, alongside important policy updates across all libraries.

Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS)

Conveyancing Practice Update 2026 (Course)

Revised for 2026 and approved by the Law Society, this course addresses the key changes shaping residential conveyancing practice. Topics include the mandatory TA6 6th edition, current SDLT and LTT rates and reliefs, climate change considerations for conveyancers, and digital processes such as electronic signatures and digital ID verification. Featuring expert video guidance from Tom Horrocks.

Risk, Compliance, and Client Care Update 2026 (Course)

Revised for 2026 and approved by the Law Society, this course covers the essentials of conveyancing risk management, compliance, and client care. You'll work through fraud prevention and response, anti-money laundering procedures, SRA Accounts Rules compliance, and transparency obligations using practical scenarios relevant to all conveyancing roles.

CQS Policies and Precedents

Our subject matter experts have provided updates to the following CQS policies and templates to ensure they reflect current legislation and best practice.

  • CQS Core Practice Management Standards Guide v3.1

    • Reviewed and confirmed as up to date.

  • CQS Leasehold Purchase Policy v3.2

    • Updated section on leasehold houses to reflect that LAFRA bans the sale of new leasehold houses (with limited exceptions), whilst clarifying that existing leasehold houses remain unaffected and continue to present inherent risks. Updated guidance on LAFRA provisions, including those now in force and those pending commencement.

  • CQS Stamp Duty Land Tax Policy v3.4

    • Updated references to higher rates for additional dwellings, clarified first-time buyer relief thresholds under SDLT, confirmed first-time buyer relief does not apply in Wales, and clarified higher rates for additional properties.

  • CQS Financial Transactions Procedures v1.3

    • Enhanced fraud verification checks added to pre-transfer of funds checklist in response to the significant increase in conveyancing fraud reported throughout 2024–2025. Additional guidance for remote and hybrid working arrangements added, addressing fraud vulnerabilities in these contexts.


GRC for Law Firms

AML Update Webinar – January 2026 (Webinar)

Brian Rogers and Mariam Dobosz provide the latest developments across the AML and sanctions landscapes, covering:

  • SRA AML enforcement focus

  • Recent AML fines

Mortgage, Property and Registration Fraud Prevention Risk Assessment (Sale and Purchase) v2.2

Updated cross-references to align with changes to the accompanying policy and clarified escalation timeframe for high-risk matters to "same working day."

Sanctions Policy v3.1

Light touch update to reflect the changes effective from 28 January 2026 when the UK Sanctions List became the single official source for all UK sanctions designations, replacing the OFSI Consolidated List. The updates clarify that firms should conduct sanctions screening via the UK Sanctions List search tool and subscribe to the unified UK sanctions email alert service (FCDO/OFSI/OTSI)

The content included in this release note is being launched across two releases: 13th February saw the release of policy templates for CQS and Policies and Precedents for law firms. The CQS Update courses and GRC for Law Firms Webinars are available from 26th February 2026.

What’s coming?

Our next content release is scheduled for March 26th, which will see the release of our redesigned and renamed course: Reporting AML suspicions within your firm (previously titled Dealing with Suspicious Activity Reports).

Previously focused on external reporting — the domain of compliance officers — this course has been refocused for all staff, providing practical guidance on recognising suspicious activity and following your firm's internal reporting procedures with confidence.
